Rhys Llwyd Davies was comissioned to develop detailed design for this new dwelling on land overlooking the Mawddach Estuary in Bont Ddu, between Dolgellau and Barmouth. The site is steeply sloping and the dwelling needed to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The potential problem generated by the gradient of the site has been exploited to with a stepped footprint where the living accommodation is provided at the entrance level, benefiting from greater levels of natural lighting and sunlight. The sleeping accommodation is located below, allowing greater privacy away from the access to the property and surrounded by the existing vegetation to create a sheltered lower garden.
Construction work is on-going under the direction of the property owner.
