Tyddyn yr Ynn is a replacement dwelling, on a site with a complex history, where a previous building was halted mid-construction leaving only foundations and a bare steel skeleton associated with an the original design proposal. Rhys Llwyd Davies - Architect | Pensaer developed detailed proposals for a new dwelling would fit around the existing structure while also meeting the client's breif of allowing the property to remain off-grid, with no electricity connection. Passive ventilation and solar heating was maximised with a centralised design layout with all rooms feeding off a south facing centrall hall / living space, the only room in the house which would receive direct heating. The design adopts a traditional roof form, but with a stricking central rooflight that provides a high level of natural daylight into the centre of the deep plan space and providing for natural ventilation and a creating a distinctive internal space.
Construction work commenced in November 2013, under a client led management contract.
