Plas Newydd is located at the southern end of Eldon Square in Dolgellau and is made up of 3 separate units, all individually grade II listed. Although the main street elevation is Georgian in appearance, an archeological study of the building suggests the rear part is much older, possibly dating back to the late 16th century, which would make this one of the oldest properties in the town. Rhys Llwyd Davies - Architect | Pensaer was responsible for the renovation of the central and western units as part of the Dolgellau Townscape Heritage Initiative. This included significant repairs and renovation works to the central unit, and the re-organisation of access to the upper floor of the western unit to bring back the upper floors into use as a stand alone apartment. The works uncovered a number of intersting features, previously hidden and unknown, including a plank and muntin timber partition, now restored.
Construction work was completed in March 2013.
